Gerbeaud Cukrászda ( V. Vörösmarty tér 7-8. )

is situated in the very heart of Budapest, Gerbeaud is one of the biggest, most famous and traditional confectionaries in Europe. Its parlours seat 330 people who can enjoy the excellent place with a unique atmosphere. Gerbeaud offers mouth-watering cakes and pastries created by Henrik Kugler and Emil Gerbeaud, attentive service second to none in a wonderfully lavish setting characterised by rich stucco decoration, gorgeous chandelliers and bold brocade-covered walls.

Café New York ( VII. Erzsébet krt. 9-11. )

This is the most beautiful one among the legendary coffee houses in Budapest. The building was designed by Alajos Hauszmann. It was once the haunt of Budapest's most famous poets, playwrights, writers and painters, such as Endre Ady, Ferenc Molnár, Frigyes Karinthy and Pál Szinyei Merse. In 2006, it was wonderfully restored and transformed into a luxury 235 room, five-star hotel. The Neo-Baroque interior design of this turn-of-the-20th-century building is simply breathtaking in every aspect.

Ruin pubs

Szimpla Kert ( VII. Kazinczy utca 14. )

Szimpla Kert was opened in 2001, since then it has become part of the Budapest image. It is a multicultural hub with frequent programmes, concerts and films (Szimpla Garden Cinema). Its kitchen is popular with young people. It is worth taking a ten-minute walk to discover the alternative Budapest.

Instant & Fogas Ház ( 1073 Budapest, Akácfa utca 49-51. )

Instant & Fogas Ház isn't so much a typical ruin bar as a massive venue featuring more than a dozen bars and several dance floors. This enormous building with a crumbling facade dates back to 1861, when the area was part of Budapest's Jewish Quarter. Instant & Fogas may not be the best place to experience the ruin bar ambiance but head over here if you're in the mood for dancing as other ruin bars offer little space for moving your feet.

Culture and food

KogArt Ház ( VI. Andrássy út 112. )

KogArt Ház offers an excellent exhibition and a mouth-watering lunch at the same time. Besides organising five to six large-scale exhibitions a year since 2004 on contemporary modern art, KogArt Ház pays a special attention to the youngest generation of artists presenting their work at the annual "Fresh Europe" Show. A night out in an elegant villa flavoured with art: you can enjoy excellent food and wines surrounded by paintings of János Vaszary, János Mattis-Teusch, László Moholy Nagy, Valér Ferenczy or Lajos Kassák.

Akvárium Klub ( V. Erzsébet tér )

Akvárium Klub is a trendy, multicultural hub in the very heart of Budapest, on Deák Square. It organises exciting contemporary art and cultural events including a great number of alternative rock, jazz and world music concerts.

Városliget

Városliget is only five stops away on the Millennium Underground from the Opera Garden Hotel & Apartments. It has always been a popular park in the Hungarian capital, part of the city myth. Ferenc Molnár was inspired by the unique atmosphere of the park, and his world-famous play titled Caroussel was put on stage in West End Theatres in London and on the New York Broadway as well. Be part of the City Park legend, and do not miss to taste scones ("lángos"), cotton candy ("vattacukor") and pretzels ("perec").
